Connecting people to the environment through delight in plants.

About

Originally from suburban Maryland, Melissa found a new home in the South while studying Environmental Public Health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.  After receiving a Masters of Science in Public Health from UNC she spent a year farming in Western NC and teaching English in France. Returning to NC she taught hands-on food education in five elementary schools in High Point, NC under the guidance of Guilford County Cooperative Extension and 4-H. During that time she launched a "Donation Station" at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market in partnership with Farmer Foodshare to connect local farmers and market shoppers to community members who don't have consistent access to fresh foods. Melissa then continued to NC State University to study horticulture and landscape design where she focused on campus pollinator resources.

Originally from Maryland, I found a new home in North Carolina while studying Environmental Public Health at UNC Chapel Hill.  After receiving a Masters of Science in Public Health I spent a year farming and traveling abroad. I then returned to NC to teach hands-on food education in school gardens with 4-H through FoodCorps. Completing a permaculture design certification in Greensboro, NC inspired me to seek additional training in horticulture and landscape design at NC State University. I then spent four years managing a 30 acre educational farm where I engaged kids of all ages in hands-on environmental education. Now I’m taking my dedication to public health and environmental education to the next level as a fully licensed landscape architect. My greatest adventure of all is being a mom and making a life in Durham, NC!
